Illustration Friday: Sticky

Click image for a better look.

When I first saw the theme for this week was "sticky", I immediately thought of how my hubby always wishes that he had a "sticky hand" to reach things, like the remote, when he's too lazy to get out of his chair. He usually accompanies that statement with a sound effect, "wah-pshhhh!"

I took a little reference photo and got to work. Just a quick pencil sketch, outlined with a pen, and the scanned in and colored in Photoshop. Pretty simple execution.

Illustration Friday: Rain #2

My second attempt at the "rain" theme.

I wanted to do something different so I thought I'd go grade-school style and pull out the Elmer's glue and safety scissors. I originally wanted to do something really detailed, but I had two obstacles. One, I couldn't find my good craft scissors. Cutting anything small was arduous. Two, I was trying to make use of my excess Color-Aid paper from color theory class, and I absolutely detest the way it feels! Ick, I got chills even holding it in my hands. I probably could have done more if I used construction paper, but that's my lesson for the week.

Color-Aid paper + scissors = yuck

Illustration Friday: Rain

Wow, it's been a long time. I suppose that's what planning a wedding does to a person...completely voids them of creativity.

Anyway, I made a vow this weekend (that I'm sure will last all of one week) to pick up a pencil every so often. Even if it's quick, just to get me back into the swing of things. And maybe, just maybe, I'll start to get the hang of it. So here's an IF attempt, thrown together while lying in bed last night. I know I always tend to stick myself in there, but I'm not a narcissist, I swear. It's just easy for me to stand in front of a mirror.

And here's the naked version:

Is it ironic that I lost my socks this morning???

Now that the HOWieZine has been shipped, I'll share with you my pages. I was a little disappointed with myself. It didn't come out the way I wanted, but I need some work. I'll get there eventually and re-illustrate it. I'm very satisfied with my poem! I just need some help with assembling the page. Like I said, I'll keep practicing.

Also, in case the text is too difficult to read, here it is:

It’s seven a.m. and I’m dressing for work
I open the drawer and then go berserk!
One black sock was all to be found!
The match has to be here, I’ll just look around

Where could it be? I stand there in shock
I can’t go to work wearing only one sock!
I know, in the dryer, it must have got stuck
I look up inside, but alas, no such luck

Perhaps I dropped it under the bed
Nope, just a book and a sandal instead
Maybe it’s caught in a pant leg or sleeve
I can’t search them all, I really must leave
Seven fifteen, it says on my clock
But I can’t go outside till I find that black sock!

Not on my shelf, not in my purse
Not under my pillow, this couldn’t get worse
Not in the cupboard nor under the sink
It can’t just be missing; concentrate, think

Where would I be if I were a sock?
Out in the garden, under a rock?
Jenkinson’s house at the end of the block?
Along the town lake, trapped on a dock
Stolen away by an oversized hawk?
On the left foot of a bullying jock?
Inside the tummy of an angry green croc?
Over the seas in mystic Bangkok?

Arg! Who could know where a missing sock goes!
I just want some fabric to cover my toes!
I’ve searched everywhere, across, up and down
And that missing sock is nowhere to be found!
Here’s my one sock, the match should be near!
Where else could it b…oh wait, it’s right here

Illustration Friday: Free

Hi there! Here's a quick drawing I did yesterday. I was stuck at work printing 350 postcards through the bypass tray, so I had to sit there and feed the darn thing. As I sat there, trapped, dreaming of freedom, i thought it related well to the illustration friday topic this week.

Um yeah, that's me. :-) So that was my lack of freedom that I experienced yesterday. Thanks for letting me share!

Crafty Weekend

Well, I was able to make some cards this weekend. Actually, I had to make some invitations for a coworker, so I figured I'd get my craft on while I had all my materials laid all over the table.

Here are the invitations:

I'm pretty pleased with the way they turned out. Usually I rush through stuff I do for coworkers since I feel bad about charging them a serious rate. So I'll do something quickly and charge them very little. (I know, that's a problem.) But these came out so delicate and pretty, so I'm happy. :-)

When I went to the craft store this weekend, I found these corrugated cardboard blank cards and I thought they were great. I wanted to make a few cards to send to some friends of mine.

I had fun using my new chatterbox papers (which took a month get here by the way!) and my distressing ink. Still figuring out how to use it. Let me know what you think!

Illustration Friday: Night

This is my first attempt to post something for Illustration Friday, so bear with me! :-) I started drawing this little girl in her nightgown, and when I drew the window, I put a whole "night" scene behind it with a moon and stars. But I thought that was too obvious, so as a joke, I put a sun. It turned into this picture of a girl that lost her tooth and wants to go to bed so she can get her toothfairy money. (I wish I had a better scanner!)

For fun last night I just colored it with crayola colored pencils, and I threw together this poem to tell the story:

Alrighty, Mom, I'm ready for bed
I did all of the things that you had said
I brushed my teeth and combed my hair
I grabbed my favorite teddy bear
I put on my nightgown, slippers and hat
I'll betcha you thought I'd forget about that
I washed my face, I got a drink
I didn't even make a mess of the sink
And most important, just like I should
I tucked my tooth under my pillow real good
So will you come please, and tuck me in soon
Whaddaya mean I can't go to sleep yet at noon?

Thanks for looking!! :-)
